Sleep is something that’s extremely important to me. If i don’t get the proper amount of sleep every night, I seem to be in a complete funk the next morning. Sleep-deprived me is WAY more dangerous than a hangry me. Does anyone else one that feels the same way too? Once I became a mom, it became important to me to be aware of my own self-care. I started to do a routine which helps me unwind and relax after a long day which is perfect for getting my body ready for a good night’s sleep. What’s my routine you ask? I’m happy to share my tips with you!
Turn Off Electronics – Before I get to bed, I try my best to turn off all my electronics about 30 minutes before I physically get into bed. This includes my laptop & phone. Sometimes, I may watch a TV show here and there but when it comes to social media, I really have been great at staying off of it for 30 minutes before bed. This really helps to ease my mind and not think about what I was reading beforehand. Right now I feel like so many of us really don’t unplug or shut off our electronics before getting into bed and it’s so important to do so.
Turn The Lights Down – One of the things that I really hate is when I enter a room at night and the lights are so bright! Dimmers are seriously one of the best things to have in your home to set the mood that it’s time for bed. It really helps to get your mind set and our bodies able to adjust that it’s time to get into sleep mode with only a few touches of the light.
Soft Environment – When it comes to your actual bedroom, you want to make sure you have your surrounding environment calming and serene. If you’re bedroom has bright colors it’s not telling your body to relax and unwind of the day. Think of cool tones like soft blues or purples to give your room a soft spa like feel to it when you enter after a long day. I also like to pair these colors with the same like texture and feel in my bathroom while I brush my teeth. The bathroom also wants to have the same feel to it as your bedroom. For this idea, my countertops was needing a bit of a makeover and thanks to a local company, Premier Surfaces Buffalo NY Countertops, they were able to help reach my vision of soft marble. This gave my bathroom the soothing vibe I was wanting and really helped me to relax when it was time to get ready for bed. They also offer a variety of different countertops such a wood, quartz or limestone if marble isn’t your end result. Their customer service is always on point in helping explain my vision and staying within my budget. They have offices all around the United States so finding your own store within your area is a breeze.
Choose A Comfortable Position – As the wife of a snorer (insert eye roll now), one way for my hubby to get a better night sleep and not wake ME is by elevating his head with a pillow. You can use either one or two pillows to help you raise it about 5 inches off the bed. This actually helps you breathe properly as you sleep. There are specially designed pillows to encourage proper breathing and relaxed neck muscles so you’re snoring can be reduced. I love (and can ONLY) to sleep on my side, which actually is better for you to give your body a more comfortable and relaxed sleep. If you’re pregnant, you should actually sleep on your left side with a body pillow and lots of supporting pillow. Lying down when you are pregnant should be done with care as you don’t want to put you or your baby at risk. Talk with your doctor if you have any concerns about sleep positions while you’re pregnant.
Go To Bed At The Same Time Every Night – Having a regular sleep schedule is key, even on the the weekends or your days off. This really helps to ensure your internal sleep clock is set on a schedule and makes it easier for you to fall asleep at night. You amy think that going to bed one hour later won’t affect your sleep schedule, but any changes or shifts to your sleep will give you negative effects and can lead to oversleeping or restless sleep. To avoid messing this up, set your alarm on your phone or computer to remind you it’s time for you to go to bed. Have your phone alert you either an hour or 30 minutes before bed so you can prepare yourself and stick to your schedule.
These tips are here to help you and give you the best sleep possible. Once you know what works best for you and feeling your best in the morning, it will become easier to stick with your self-care routine, especially when it comes to sleeping. When we feel our best, we’re doing our best everyday. How do you dedicate your self care routine at night?
Thank you Premier Surfaces for helping me get a better night sleep!
