Hey beauties! This weekend was AMAZING. We were asked by Two River Theatre (& Social Sidekick) in Red Bank, NJ, to attend Pamela’s First Musical. Part of our weekend in Red Bank included an overnight stay at the gorgeous Oyster Pointe Hotel, & dinner at Urban Coal Fired Pizza & Bar after the show. I love Red Bank because it reminds me of city life (or the closest thing to it) living in the NJ suburbs. There are streets where you can walk around & don’t need a car, there is nightlife, there are good restaurants, theaters & always something to do.
Even my older daughter when we arrived in Red Bank said “this looks like Brooklyn.” Red Bank just has a great vibe, so when we were asked to participate in this amazing opportunity, there was NO way we were going to pass up this great experience.
We had 2 birthday parties this weekend so our weekend looked a little something like this:
Saturday: Party #1 from 2 until about 7.
Get to Red Bank around 8.
Sunday: Check out of hotel, thank goodness for Rook Coffee in Red Bank.
Party #2 from 11-1 at House of Bounce in Wall, NJ.
Come back to Red Bank for show at 3.
Show ends at 4:30 then dinner at Urban CoalHouse Pizza & Bar.
Then HOME.
It was a super busy, but super FUN weekend making more memories with my family. Now lets talk about the hotel first. Oyster Pointe Hotel is GORGEOUS. It sits right on the Navesink River, & our room gave us the most picture perfect, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL view of the river! What a perfect way to wake up. Perfect place to stay in Red Bank (or its sister hotel, the Molly Pitcher Inn).
Overlooking such a gorgeous river, on such a beautiful day, at such a great hotel, not a bad way to spend the night/morning!

Next, Pamela’s First Musical. This show was terrific, TERRIFIC! The show is based on a book, & the play has been in the works for 20 years before being perfected & debuted this past weekend. Two River theatre kicked off its 25th season with the premiere of this show! The show has a limited run from September 8th until October 7th, so if you plan to see it (which you absolutely should) please don’t wait to buy tickets!
The musical tells the story of Pamela, played by the talented (& super nice) Sarah McKinley Austin. She is a girl who has an extraordinary imagination, dreaming of developing every part (& winning every award) for musical shows she imagines. She is lonely, doesn’t related to her father or brothers, & has a mother who has passed away. The only person Pamela relates to is her Aunt Louise, who is also eccentric & fabulous, like Pamela! Pamela is upset that her father proposes to his new girlfriend on her birthday, thinking she would be happy about it. Aunt Louise sweeps in to save the day & takes Pamela to Manhattan to see her first musical show. Louise takes Pamela to meet the cast, producers, directors, & even gets help from a stylist to help Pamela develop into who she wants to be.
Pamela’s First Musical, is a show within a show. It is so entertaining from start to finish. My kids LOVED it. I think it gave my older daughter ideas about acting, & singing as a career. She always makes up songs & dances & now she wants to be on a stage doing it! Every character in the show was stellar & their performances were incredible. The music was great, the dancing was great, the story was great! The whole crowd was so entertained, & really laughed, smiled, & enjoyed themselves.
The show was simply SPLENDIFEROUS (that is a reference from the show wink wink). I really think kids ages 4 up to teens would enjoy this show. The crowd had people attending of all ages & every single person enjoyed themselves. I am so grateful we had the chance to see this show & I really can’t say enough good things about it.
The Two River Theatre even had a fun Photo Booth in the lobby! So fun taking pictures with all the props!

After the show, we were invited to eat at Urban Coalhouse Pizza & Bar.
The food was absolutely incredible. My little one was scarfing down the fried calamari like nobody’s business. The coal fired wings were delicious, as was the fried cauliflower! The food was just delicious. We will for sure come back next time we are in the area. The best part of dinner, besides it being delicious, was getting to spend time with “Pamela” herself. Sarah McKinley Austin, & her equally lovely mother joined us for dinner. Sarah even liked my nails (totally gushing!). It was so nice to be able to talk to both of them about the life of an actor, how to balance it all, & all the other things Sarah has accomplished. She was an eloquent, charming, young girl who will be lighting up the stage for years & years to come.

Our weekend was simply magical. We again want to thank Sidekick Media, The Oyster Pointe Hotel, Two River Theatre, & Urban Coalhouse Pizza & Bar for making sure our weekend was something we will always remember! If you are in Red Bank, or planning a visit to Red Bank, check out these local businesses, you will truly be thankful you did! Pamela’s First Musical is only running until October 7th , so please make sure you check out tickets before its run is over. It is not a show you would want to miss! Thank you for sponsoring this post!
